The Wolf Tooth 104 BCD Chainring in black with 40 teeth features the Drop-Stop tooth design, known for its wide/narrow pattern that improves chain retention and reduces friction by allowing clearance for mud and debris. This chainring fits any 104 BCD crankset, a common bolt pattern found on double and triple cranksets, and is suitable for 1x9, 1x10, 1x11, and 1x12 drivetrains. For 9-speed drivetrains, using a 10-speed chain is recommended for better retention.
The wide side of the tooth maximizes contact on the drive side to distribute load and extend chainring life, while the narrow side helps prevent chain derailment. These chainrings are designed to meet the demands of e-bike use and are compatible with QUARQ power meters.
Bolt requirements vary based on tooth count: the 40T size uses 6mm long 1x bolts. For sizes 30T to 38T and use with bashrings, different bolt lengths are required (not supplied by Wolf Tooth).
For muddy riding conditions, it is recommended to use a chainguide or chainkeeper alongside a clutch-type rear derailleur to prevent chaindrops or chainsuck.
Made from high-quality 7075-T6 aluminum, this chainring is produced in the USA.
